Whenever you are on the go and you use your smartphone or tablet to search for something or someone, you are using location-based services (LBS).
Do you need a car quickly? The car-sharing app will show you the closest available vehicle. Low on gas? The map will show you the closest gas station. Want to head out at the last minute? The friend app will show you where your friends are. Even the advertising in your apps or browser can be individually tailored to your current location, for example, if a business nearby is having a special sale.
Caution is required when it comes to data protection. In order for location-based services to work, location tracking has to be activated on your smartphone and you must have the apps that provide the corresponding access.
