Among other things, the Urban Tech Republic, a research and industrial park for urban technologies, will be built on the site of the former Tegel Airport in the future. In order for a truly smart district to emerge, ways must be found into digitalisation.

As part of the CEFAT4Cities Virtual Hackathon the FIWARE Foundation and Tegel Projekt GmbH are proposing a "Smart Cities & Open Data" challenge. At the hackathon, a multilingual app is to be developed for visitors to help them explore the site of Berlin TXL. Among other things, the listed architecture and the future development of the site into an intelligent and sustainable innovation campus are to be realised. The information provided by the app can be any relevant information that helps users to get to know the area. For example, the app could offer environmental information such as air quality/weather, interesting points of interest with historical background knowledge or virtual tours.

The app should be designed to be usable on different devices and accessible to all, including people with visual, hearing and other sensory impairments.

A Jury will evaluate individually the submitted proposals and draw up a ranking of the projects
presented for the challenge. The event is open to all interested parties.

The following dates apply:

  • 15 February 2022, 17:00 - Deadline for submission of proposals.
  • 22 to 24 February 2022 - virtual pitch to the members of the jury
  • 28 February 2022 - announcement of the winner(s)

The organiser is responsible for the content of the event. Participation fees may apply.
